I have always been that friend who is constantly recommending self care to everyone in the world, and I thought that it would be an interesting thing for me to share some of those ideas with y’all.

Because let’s face it. Not every health care professional has time to care for your mental health too. Some people don’t have time to even make time for themselves. When there is a lot going on, it is hard to make time to care for yourself. If you are spending all your time making sure that everybody else is okay, then you are not necessarily taking care of you in the process.

I would also like to say that this is not a post about how to break up with your girlfriend. That is a whole other blog post.

This is a post about how to take care of yourself. I had a long conversation the other day with a very close friend. I told her that I was going to write a post about self-care. She asked why. I told her that I think it’s important to care for ourselves too. You’ve got to care for your health as well. If you don’t care for your health and well-being, then you don’t have time to take care of all the other people in your life. You can’t be a good friend, wife, partner, mother, father, daughter, sister, brother, teacher, or employee if you don’t take care of yourself.

You know that old saying “you are what you eat?” Well, I’m thinking that you are also what you think. I’m not sure about the science behind that. I’m sure there are a lot of factors that come into play. I’m just passing that on to you.

Now, I’m not talking about exercising through a personal trainer. I’m not even talking about working out with a gym membership. I’m talking about going for a walk. Get your ass outside. It’s good for your brain. It’s good for your mood. It’s good for your health. It’s good for your relationships. It’s good for your friendships. It’s good for your self-care. It’s good for your life.

And if you are in a place where you don’t want to go outside, then I’ve got a solution for you too: yoga. Or your favorite dance class. Or maybe even just going for a run every once in a while. You know you can’t go on a 2-hour run every week. But every once in awhile is good.
